Preserving our environment is incredibly important which is why Flooring Online is committed to supplying sustainably sourced timber. All Flooring Online products are supplied from distributors devoted to environmental conservation. Embelton products are accredited by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and Egger products are accredited by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
What is FSC and PEFC Certification?
FSC and PEFC are the two major global not for profit organisations aiming to protect sensitive environments, ecosystems, fauna and indigenous populations from harmful or illegal logging operations.
There are 2 parts to the certification process.
1) Forestry Management Certification – This ensures the practices of the forest owner and logging operations from which the raw materials are sourced are sustainable, ethical and legal.
2) Chain of Custody Certification – This ensures that a continuous chain can be established between the original source (the forest) and the finished product (the timber flooring), which means the substitution of illegally logged timber is not possible.
Why it’s Important
According to the FSC, ‘trees are renewable, forests are not ‘. Forests are increasingly being recognised as a critically important resource in reducing the effects of climate change. Additionally, they represent some of the richest biological areas on Earth, while also providing food, renewable raw materials for many of our products, and livelihoods for millions of people and animals.
Do the right thing and check
Always ensure you are buying from a FSC or PEFC certified company. Unfortunately, it is common for businesses to be dishonest about their certification.
The FSC website lists companies with current FSC certification where you can verify our compliance (G.P. Embelton Licence no. FSC-C13280) or check other businesses from whom you may be considering a purchase. Search here.
