Pets bring so much enrichment to our lives, they are a loving set of eyes, a companion, training partner, security guard and family member to many of us. With this in mind, when choosing new flooring it’s important to consider how your pets and lifestyle will impact your floors.
If you’ve decided on timber flooring and you’re worried about how your floors will wear with pets, we’re here to help. Pets and timber flooring probably don’t come to mind as the best combination in the world, but not to worry, there are plenty of ways to protect new timber floors from the occasional (or constant) terror of our four-legged friends. Without further ado, here are our top tips for keeping timber floors looking beautiful with pets.
1) Pet Pedicures
For those of us who’ve felt the sting of cat claws, we understand how sharp our pets’ nails can be. Keeping your pet’s nails neatly trimmed will help in avoiding any scratches on your floorboards.
2) Pet Salon
Keeping your pets brushed and groomed will mean less shedding of hair onto your floors. Build-up of hair, dirt and debris is not good for your floors, so regular sweeping along and pet grooming will keep your timber floors looking beautiful for years to come.
3) The More Mats the Merrier
Protective mats are your friend. Protective entry mats and exit mats will help protect your flooring from wet, muddy or generally over-excited dogs. Similarly putting pets’ food and water bowls on non-slip mats will protect your flooring from any undesired mess.
4) Accidents Happen!
All pets have accidents from time to time, and sometimes these can be missed. To avoid staining or further damage to your floors make sure to clean up all pet mishaps as soon as you see them.
5) Repairing Scratches
If by chance your flooring does experience some scratches along the way, fear not! There are several options available to mask surfaces scratches in your floors. It’s important to remember however, that scuffs and small scratches are inevitable with timber flooring. These marks are not necessarily unwanted and add character to your floors and home.
